Shades of MAPS – Red

Anjitha Reji August 24, 2023

In the heart of our artistic exploration lies the MAPS collection with four colours in its palette – red, yellow, indigo and green celebrating the beauty of journeys, roads, and directions.

The radiant red in this collection is obtained from Madder or Manjistha extracted from the plant’s root, akin to turmeric, the process involves cleaning, sun-drying, and boiling the root in water for dye extraction.

This dye is predominantly employed for coloring cotton, silk, and wool fibers. The active coloring agent within madder is referred to as “Alizarin.”

This method not only imparts captivating shades but also unveils the alchemical dance between natural elements and human craft, a perfect fusion of tradition and innovation in the realm of textile dyeing.

Shop these pieces from our website or visit our stores in New Delhi, Ahmedabad or Mumbai.

These pieces hold stories of transformation, reminding us that beauty can emerge from the least unexpected.
